Uno spirito curioso e indipendente, che ha fatto delle sue gallerie dei laboratori in cui sosteneva appassionatamente gli artisti. L\u2019 Archivio Ala \u00e8 stato posto sotto tutela dalla Soprintendenza Archivistica e Bibliografica della Lombardia per l\u2019alto valore documentario e per l\u2019importanza dell\u2019interesse storico che riveste nell\u2019ambito dell\u2019arte contemporanea.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Salvatore Ala, mecenate e gallerista, fu fautore di un fecondo dialogo alla pari tra Europa e Stati Uniti che lo ha visto proporre in anticipo sui tempi molti artisti. Incontra l\u2019arte nel 1964 tramite Lucio Fontana. Da qui inizia il suo progetto di lavoro di andare in giro per l\u2019Italia a promuovere le opere dell\u2019artista, muovendosi viene a contatto con altre realt\u00e0 esistenti in quel periodo. Ad esempio a Milano in quegli anni viene a conoscenza del lavoro di Piero Manzoni e degli artisti come Mimmo Rotella; a Venezia, Emilio Vedova; a Roma, Alberto Burri e la nuova generazione.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dall\u2019Italia esce ed inizia a girare per l\u2019Europa: Parigi, Francoforte, Londra, Amsterdam e qui incontra artisti come Gerhard Richter, Gilbert &amp; George e Daniel Buren.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Negli anni Settanta l\u2019obbiettivo diventa New York, dove inizia a comprare opere di Agnes Martin, Mark Rothko, Ellsworth Kelly, Ad Reinhardt, Robert Ryman, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol e Morris Louis che porta in Italia per farle conoscere ai collezionisti.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nel 1974 nasce la Galleria Salvatore Ala a Milano con le prime mostre in Europa di Joel Shapiro e appena dopo la mostra di Agnes Martin; tra una e l\u2019altra, si svolgono le serate di Robert Wilson e la sua equipe come anteprime in Italia. letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-transform ); background-color: var( --e-global-color-c696dce );\">Penone, Gilberto Zorio, Mario Merz, Marisa Merz e Pierpaolo Calzolari.<\/span><\/p><p>Nella seconda met\u00e0 degli anni \u201970 viene fatta la prima mostra di Wolfgang Laib, Gordon Matta-Clark, Rebecca Horn e Vito Acconci nella sede di Milano, la quale ospita anche la prima mostra in Italia di Anselm Kiefer (1981).<\/p><p>Nel 1979 si inaugura la Salvatore Ala Gallery a New York con la mostra di Jannis Kounellis e per la prima volta inizia il programma di interscambio tra artisti italiani e americani tra le due gallerie di Milano e New York.<\/p><p>Nei primi anni \u201980 incomincia ad interessarsi alla giovane scultura inglese: Antony Gormley, Eric Bainbridge, Alison Wilding ed altri; a New York incomincia la collaborazione con Keith Haring e il cos\u00ec detto <em>Graffitismo<\/em> che porta alla realizzazione a Milano della prima mostra di gruppo (Keith Haring, Ronnie Cutrone, Kenny Scharf e James Brown) nel 1983, quindi alla prima mostra personale a Milano di Keith Haring nel 1984.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); Il materiale esistente riguarda il periodo tra il 1974 e il 2011 ed \u00e8 messo a disposizione degli studiosi.<\/p><p>Parte di questo storico archivio privato \u00e8 ora presentato anche on line per dare modo al pubblico e agli studiosi di conoscerlo, studiarlo e valorizzarlo.
